Alternative roofing materials – If you build an addition to your home, you will have to adhere the new roof to the existing one. This is a difficult task you should avoid if you do not have experience in building houses and lots of help. Since this project involves structural elements of the house, it is advisable to have an architect draw or at least approve the plans of the project.
Plan the connection of your new alternative roofing materials depending on where you will do it. An extension of a roof, adding a roof to a gable end under an existing roof and connecting a perpendicular addition. They are also projects that require different types of structure. For the first two types of projects, begin by nailing a truss to the end of the old roof truss or to the wall of the house. For a perpendicular addition, lift a truss in place and use it to score points for the basin joints on the old roof to support the new trusses and trusses. These will form a triangle in the ceiling.
Alternative roofing materials, prepare the area for the roof connection by removing the material from the old ceilings, cladding or other elements. Remove these materials until the lining or frames of the old ceiling. For extensions, lift a beam in place and attach it to the last truss of the old ceiling or to the wall of the house (fixing them to the beams and posts) and to the top of the new wall. For a perpendicular addition, nail two two-by-six inch (5×15 cm) basin boards into the old roof along the marked lines, then nail a truss in place. You will have to cut and nail connecting beams of varying lengths between the basin boards and the new roof projecting joint.
