In a test conducted by the Florida Solar Energy Center, the official energy research institute in Florida conducted a white tile roof the best of all the architectural roofing materials tested. At peak temperatures during the day, a home with a white tile roof was 40 degrees cooler than a similar home with a black asphalt shingle roof. The researchers concluded that white tiles work well in hot climates.
