Big color works in a small space: Benjamin Moore’s Newburg Green on the guest room walls of this Los Angeles bungalow plays off fabrics in hot tropical colors. “Dark colors don’t necessarily make a room smaller,” designer Moises Esquenazi says. “And besides, I don’t mind a bedroom that feels small, especially since its primary use is for sleeping. Why should it not be dark, moody or sensual? It really is a kind of sanctuary.”

“The master bedroom has a very retro feel to it,” says designer Mona Ross Berman, “with the pink, tangerine, and lavender color palette, the paisley linen, and the zigzag Missoni-esque pattern on the floor.” The floor is painted Salmon Berry and White Dove, both by Benjamin Moore. The headboard is upholstered in Henry in Rose by Raoul Textiles. Pouf from John Derian.

A combination of plush fabrics, grand furniture, and pops of pink make a gray color palette look extraordinary. Designer Ashley Whittaker wanted this Greenwich, Connecticut, bedroom for her client’s college-age daughter to feel sophisticated, but still youthful and feminine. “Lavender has a whole new point of view when it’s mixed with turquoise and navy,” Whittaker says. “It says ‘girl’ without screaming ‘girly girl.’ ” She upholstered the bed in Suzzani by Quadrille and dressed it in Matouk Mirasol bedding. An Ava mirrored nightstand from Worlds Away holds a Genevieve table lamp from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Walls are painted Mountain Mist by Benjamin Moore.
